WW1 Remembrance

Sun, 11 Nov 2018 10:27

Sunday 11 November 2018 will mark 100 years since the Armistice and the end of the First World War – the Great War - considered to be 'the war to end all wars' with 9 million combatants and some 7 million civilians killed.

On this special day we invite those living in Brailsford and Ednaston to join together in a special event to be held in the Brailsford Institute which also houses a memorial to the war dead.

Eight Brailsford men were among those killed in service to their country and we should like to remember them through a presentation of their lives, together with the history of the Brailsford Institute which came into existence in 1922 as a memorial to them.

Everyone is invited to Brailsford Institute from 1130h on 11 November when there will be a short ceremony of commemoration at 12 noon and the opportunity to see a display of war memories, memorabilia from the time, and information on the history of the village in the early 20th century to recognize the centenary of the end of the 1914-18 war.

The exhibition will be open until 1630h and tea/coffee and light refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon. All are welcome!

You too may have family memories and stories, photos or materials from the Great War or the period. If you felt able to share these we would really welcome your contribution to the exhibition. If you would like to take part please contact the Parish Council Clerk at or Tel: 07941052009
